Paul Scholes has come out and slammed Arne Slot as Liverpool manager, as the former Manchester United legend has further stated that Anfield is no longer feared by opposition teams rocking up.
At the end of last season, Slot would have been heralded as the perfect possible replacement for Jurgen Klopp, as he stormed into the Premier League and collected the top-flight title with ease.
Now, the pitchforks are out when it comes to the Dutchman remaining put in the Anfield hot-seat, as an uninspiring 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend has done him zero favours.
Liverpool just aren’t a feared opponent anymore, with Igor Tudor’s men coming to Anfield off the back of six straight defeats, yet they didn’t look too downbeat, even when they were a goal down.
The belief remained for the away side that they could snatch a result, and they did just that, with Liverpool’s fragile nature clear for all to see.
Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has weighed in with his thoughts on Slot, when speaking on his podcast The Good, The Bad & The Football, as he has vocally slammed his style of play as a manager for being too passive and predictable, compared to Klopp’s high-octane methods.
Scholes’ damning comments on Liverpool
After Dominik Szoboszlai slammed home yet another memorable free-kick for Liverpool, the Reds should have gone in for the kill against a Spurs side known to throw in the towel.
Instead, they just couldn’t get that second golden goal, leading to Richarlison breaking hearts.
Scholes believes it’s due to Slot changing the style of Liverpool from being a gung-ho, adventurous side under the German to a more possession-based, conservative outfit under his control.
He said: “They’ve lost that determination to stop the other team. It’s just not there anymore. They’ve become almost a possession-based team.
Florian Wirtz is a brilliant, brilliant footballer, but I think he’s made them more into a possession team.
I think under Klopp and probably under past managers at Liverpool, the last thing they’re thinking about at home is playing football. They’re just thinking about kicking you, steamrolling you, and stopping you from playing.”
He has even boldly come out to state that Anfield has become a far easier hunting ground for teams to come to and upset the odds, when it was once used to be seen as a fortress.
He added: “Anfield was always the toughest place to go. Jamie Carragher mentioned it loads of times, you had the fans on top of you, and the players on top of you.
Now, this last year and a half, it’s become probably one of the easiest places to play, and you’d never say that about Anfield.”
There is again a lot of truth here behind Scholes unafraid comments, with Klopp amazingly only tasting defeat ten times as Reds boss, from 167 games overseen at Anfield.

This season alone, three defeats have been notched up, with draws aplenty also only seeing Slot and Co. win eight of the 15 matches that have taken place at their previously impenetrable home.
Liverpool will need to hope the fear factor is back in the air when Galatasaray come to Merseyside this Wednesday, with a Champions League exit at the hands of Oran Buruk’s men surely enough to finally hand the under-fire Dutchman the boot.
