Huge Liverpool boost: PSG set to lose another star to Injury for Champions League clash

Liverpool has been handed a big injury boost ahead of the Reds’ Champions League quarter-final showdowns to come against Paris Saint-Germain.

Before the Champions League kicks back into gear, though, Arne Slot’s side has a welcome international break to contend with.

A break is well needed, arguably, with the Reds only picking up a weak two wins across their last five matches in all competitions, which included a demoralising 2-1 defeat being picked up versus Brighton and Hove Albion, last time out.

After the break, the fixture schedule looks very intimidating, with an FA Cup quarter-final match-up with Manchester City sticking out as the first clash, after two weeks of downtime.

Then, it’s the first of two legs against Luis Enrique’s reigning champions, with Liverpool hopeful that the likes of Alexander Isak could potentially be back fit and available for selection at the Parc des Princes.

While Liverpool have some positive injury news to sink their teeth into, their Champions League opponents have a couple of frustrating niggles that they’re nursing, ahead of April’s first leg falling onto the calendar.

PSG’s injury issues that will boost Liverpool

Of course, PSG will still be considered overwhelming favourites – no matter what their lineup ends up looking like – having just demolished Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea 8-2 over two legs.

Moreover, they are the current holders of the Champions League, having made the competition look like a breeze last season, when overcoming Inter Milan 5-0 during an extremely one-sided final in Munich.

This does mean that Slot and Co. need to latch onto any possible advantages they can, with injury issues troubling Enrique somewhat.

Indeed, it’s already well known that Bradley Barcola is a major doubt for the tie with the Reds, with Barcola’s absence a notable blow, considering he has 12 goals and six assists next to his name this season.

He has even reportedly been on Liverpool’s radar, ahead of some earth-shuddering summer moves, with the Frenchman skilfully putting this opportunity away, earlier in the month, at Stamford Bridge.

Alongside Barcola having to potentially watch on from the sidelines, PSG will be anxiously waiting to see if Senny Mayulu will be back fit for this first leg encounter.

With five goals and five assists next to his own tally for the campaign, with one of those goals also coming away at Chelsea, Mayulu would be another disorientating blow if he were ruled out for the Parc Des Princes clash, after he sustained a nasty calf injury in a recent Ligue 1 match versus Nice.

An official PSG statement read, after the match: “After suffering an injury to his right calf during yesterday’s match against Nice, Senny Mayulu will undergo treatment for the next two weeks.”

It will surely be touch and go right up until the day of the match; therefore, as to whether the 19-year-old will feature or not, with Liverpool’s preparations, hopefully, less disrupted by injury problems piling up.
