The tributes just keep pouring in for Mohamed Salah, as the revered Egyptian calls time on his distinguished nine year Liverpool career.

It was to be expected that the tributes would flood in, as Salah’s shock announcement that he would be leaving Liverpool has clearly sent shockwaves through the Reds fanbase, and beyond.

Already, teammates such as Andy Robertson have described the 33-year-old winger as “one of the best ever” to grace the Anfield turf, while Cody Gakpo put it more simply, when calling him a “true legend” on one social media post.

Former CEO at Liverpool, Peter Moore, has also chimed in with his praise, with the Liverpool-born businessman associated with the Reds, from 2017 to 2020, as Salah settled in at Anfield, and then exploded into life.

He has written at length about the “humble” character he worked alongside, via his X account, but has also acknowledged that his crazy 255-goal tally for the club makes him one of “the greatest to ever wear the shirt.”

The outpouring of love from all corners of social media is a testament to how many figures Salah has touched during his long and celebrated nine-year stay on Merseyside.

Former Reds great Steven Gerrard was far more subdued with his reaction to the news, though, when he took to Instagram on Tuesday evening.

Gerrard’s immediate thoughts on Salah’s exit

Gerrard will know what Salah is going through right now, as he was given a roaring reception at the close of the 2014/15 campaign at Anfield, when he called time on his equally illustrious Merseyside career.

Indeed, Gerrard would go on to make a staggering 710 appearances for his boyhood club before opting for a late-career challenge at LA Galaxy, with the soon-to-be free agent’s next destination currently unknown.

Despite being in Salah’s shoes all those years ago, Gerrard was rather muted online in the direct aftermath of the 33-year-old’s sudden announcement.

He simply just reposted the emotional statement confirming the icon’s exit onto his Instagram story.

He has, in the past, waxed lyrical about the magical performances of the 33-year-old, though, with Gerrard even labelling his fantastic solo strike against Galatasaray earlier in the month as “sensational.”

But, in this instance, he was clearly just taking in the developments, as they happened, with the regular TNT Sports pundit surely set to be more vocal about the significance of the exit when quizzed further down the line.
