PSG v Liverpool: Ineligible ace spotted in training amid Alexander Isak injury latest

Share
  • Liverpool face Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday
  • The Reds fly to Paris on the back of a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Manchester City
  • All eyes are on whether Alexander Isak will make his long-awaited return

Liverpool had their final training session at the AXA Training Centre ahead of their trip to Paris Saint Germain on Tuesday, dropping a hint at Alexander Isak’s availability.

Although reports insist that Fenway Sports Group are continuing to back Arne Slot despite the Reds being in turmoil, this week and the next are certain to be crucial to the Dutchman.

The reigning Premier League champions hit a new low after succumbing to an embarrassing 4-0 loss against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, 4 April.

Therefore, there have been increasing shouts for the former Feyenoord to be sacked as Liverpool’s head coach, albeit without result.

Bowing out of the UEFA Champions League with a defeat against PSG in the last eight would certainly add more pressure on the Anfield think tank to consider pulling the plug on Slot.

That is why the manager will be hopeful of causing an upset over Luis Enrique and Co. when his side visit the Parc des Princes for the first leg of the tie on Wednesday, 8 April.

Isak trains ahead of PSG v Liverpool

Liverpool held their final training session before flying out to Paris on Tuesday (7 April) afternoon, with the media allowed access for some time.

To Slot’s relief, the Reds do not appear to have any new injury concerns following their trip to Manchester at the weekend, with no notable absentees spotted.

Meanwhile, Isak was seen training normally with the rest of the squad, suggesting that he may make his long-awaited return from injury in the French capital.

The Sweden international has been out of action since December after picking up an injury in the process of scoring in the 2-1 win against Tottenham.

He had returned to training ahead of the match against Manchester City, but Slot chose not to include him in the matchday squad on that occasion.

However, that is likely to change against PSG, with Isak now having a few training sessions under his belt.

Ineligible player spotted in Liverpool training

Alisson, Wataru Endo, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni were the most notable absentees, but that was expected.

The Liverpool No. 1 is hopeful of returning to action at the end of the month, but Endo, Bradley, and Leoni are poised to be on the treatment table longer.

Meanwhile, the Reds’ training featured an ineligible player in the shape of Calvin Ramsay.

Slot has barely used the right-back, who has 91 minutes of first-team playing time, this season, but would have hoped to include him in his Champions League squad after Bradley suffered his injury.

However, as per UEFA’s rules, Ramsay is not considered a homegrown talent, having developed in Scotland, and that meant that he could not take Bradley’s spot.

The Scot is unlikely to be used anyway, as Jeremie Frimpong and Joe Gomez are available for selection.
