Klopp back at Anfield? Legend tipped to make Liverpool vs Brentford cameo

Liverpool could be set for an emotional final day at Anfield, with former manager Jürgen Klopp reportedly in line for a surprise return when Brentford visit in the Premier League, as the club prepares to say goodbye to long-serving stars Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool fans can no longer hide away from the impending prospect of waving goodbye to both Robertson and Salah, with only three matches left now of the long, drawn-out Premier League campaign.

It will certainly be an emotional final day, that’s for sure, with the Scotsman bringing down the curtain, once and for all, on his 377-game spell on Merseyside, which has seen him lift two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy aloft.

He has shown there’s life left in his legs, too, as opposed to going out with a whimper, as he scored Liverpool’s second goal at the end of April, when Arne Slot‘s men won a controversial contest against Crystal Palace 3-1.

Salah will be racing against time to be fit; on the other hand, as he came off during the win against the Eagles with a worrying hamstring concern.

It has since been confirmed that he will be back at some stage across May, with a final-day goal against the Bees the perfect way to bow out, after scoring 257 goals on Merseyside, 12 of which have come this season, even as his powers have visibly waned.

It would be a dream ending for both the much-loved Glaswegian and his dependable teammate if Klopp were present at Anfield on the final day, with reports suggesting that the revered German could well be in attendance to see off both decorated servants.

Klopp set for Anfield return on the final day

While Robertson and Salah have excelled under the hot-and-cold reign of Slot, the duo are more synonymous with the long-lasting tenure of Klopp.

Indeed, both the full-back and the esteemed attacker were ever-present parts of the Klopp machine, across his nine years in charge of the Reds, with Robertson noting that the 58-year-old was a “special” force from the Anfield dug-out.

With Salah bagging 211 of his 257 goals at Anfield under Klopp, as well, it would feel like a full-circle moment on the final day of the season if the German was in attendance, with his ex-Reds captain Jordan Henderson also likely to feature for the away team.

He had his own heartwarming Anfield farewell in 2024, and he might be present for both Robertson and Salah bowing out, as well.

Reports suggest that Klopp will be in the United Kingdom around the time of the final game of the Premier League season, as he is scheduled to speak at the FAW National Coaches Conference in Newport, Wales, on the same weekend as the Reds’ clash with Brentford.

With it being noted that it is a four-hour car journey from Newport to Merseyside, it wouldn’t be the most ridiculous shout to suggest that Klopp would make a memorable appearance, to be by the side of two players he could always rely on in the dug-out.

He has maintained somewhat of a low-key profile at Anfield since his departure in 2024, so it remains to be seen whether he will be present.

He was there when Slot lifted the Premier League title during his debut season, though, with many believing – at the time – that the Dutchman was a dream successor to Liverpool royalty.

Ultimately, if he’s there or not, the main focus will be on both Robertson and Salah gaining a raucous farewell, with a win hopefully secured as well, to end their glittering Liverpool careers on a special note.
