Liverpool face a busy summer transfer window as new head coach Andoni Iraola begins a major rebuilding job at Anfield. Arriving on a two-year deal to replace Arne Slot, Iraola tasks himself with upgrading several positions following a disappointing 2025/26 Premier League title defence.
While the Reds are heavily focused on overhauling their wing department with up to two new signings—alongside links to centre-midfielders, right-backs, and centre-backs club management has also been actively working to secure elite young talent for the future.
At the top of that youth wishlist was 16-year-old midfield gem Kennet Eichhorn from Hertha Berlin. However, despite Liverpool’s best efforts, the player has officially snubbed a move to Merseyside.
The reason behind Kennet Eichhorn’s rejection
Eichhorn is coming off an incredibly impressive breakout campaign in the 2. Bundesliga, making 19 senior appearances in all competitions for his boyhood club. His maturity and composure in defensive midfield quickly drew interest from top European sides, including Manchester City.
Liverpool looked to have moved ahead in the race, tables-side reports even suggesting Eichhorn’s “dream” was to play at Anfield. The club had a comprehensive developmental plan ready, which included signing him in advance and loaning him back to Germany until he turned 18.
Ultimately, financial muscle and club stature weren’t enough to convince the Germany U17 international to move to England. According to German reporter Florian Plettenberg, Eichhorn has prioritised his immediate comfort and development at home.
Taking to X, Plettenberg revealed the details of the failed pursuit:
“EXCL | Rejection in the last hours: Despite Liverpool’s intensive efforts, Hertha BSC gem Kennet Eichhorn will not join the Reds.”
“Eichhorn wants to stay in Germany. Leverkusen are pushing hard for a permanent deal as revealed last night. Leipzig remain hopeful.”
“The 16 y/o has decided against a move to England, even though Liverpool’s offer was the most attractive at first glance – both financially and in terms of the club’s stature. The offer from Liverpool was higher than those of all German clubs competing for Eichhorn.”
Huge relief as Alisson Becker decision confirmed
While missing out on an “exciting” wonderkid is a bitter pill to swallow, Liverpool fans have received a massive boost regarding the spine of their current squad.
Following rumours that the club could suffer more after an exodus of veteran stars after Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson exits, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that number one goalkeeper Alisson Becker will be staying at Anfield.
Serie A giants Juventus had been aggressively plotting a move to lure the Brazilian shot-stopper to Italy, but Liverpool firmly slammed the door shut on any potential deal.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano clarified the situation:
“Juventus are targeting a top goalkeeper for the summer transfer window. The club want to bring in an important goalkeeper despite not playing Champions League football next season.”
“Juventus initially tried to sign Alisson Becker and were close to reaching an agreement with the player. However, Liverpool decided to stop the deal.
The decision was made by the club’s management, who have no intention of allowing Alisson to leave.”
“This is not about the transfer fee. It is a technical and leadership decision. Liverpool do not want to lose another key figure in the dressing room and have therefore blocked any possibility of Alisson’s departure.”

Losing out on Kennet Eichhorn is undoubtedly a disappointment for FSG’s long-term recruitment strategy. It’s rare for Liverpool to lose a transfer battle when offering the most financially lucrative package and boasting the highest club stature, but you have to respect a 16-year-old who prioritizes his developmental comfort over a major payday abroad. The door isn’t permanently shut though.
On the bright side, blocking Alisson Becker’s departure to Juventus is a massive statement of intent by Liverpool management. With a fresh tactical system being introduced by Andoni Iraola and core leaders already departing, keeping an elite, stabilizing presence like Alisson in goal is arguably the most important “signing” Liverpool will make this summer.
It proves the club is focused on immediate stability just as much as future planning.
