Arsenal Talent on Liverpool Radar: Truth Behind Shock Ethan Nwaneri Links

Arsenal’s teenage talent Ethan Nwaneri with a potential summer move to Liverpool. As Andoni Iraola looks to rebuild after a tough 2025/26 campaign.

The summer transfer window is officially open, and with it comes the inevitable, dizzying spin of the rumor mill. The latest name to be thrown into the Anfield orbit is Arsenal’s teenage midfielder Ethan Nwaneri.

Reports circulating on social media specifically from a high-profile transfer insider on X with a following of over 700k claim that Liverpool have ‘made contact’ over a potential deal for the 19-year-old. The report states:

“Exclusive: Liverpool has been keeping a close eye on Ethan Nwaneri, a young talent who has caught their attention. We understand Arsenal is open to selling him to rivals if the price is right. Our sources state contact has been made, and it’s evident that @LFC admire his potential.”

On paper, Nwaneri fits the profile of player Liverpool historically track: young, immensely talented, and possessed of a high ceiling. He sparkled for Arsenal during a breakout 2024/25 campaign, but football is a fickle business. He quickly slipped down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order before spending a rather underwhelming loan spell at Marseille from January onwards.

With Arsenal needing to balance the books and raise funds for their own summer additions, there is a belief that the Gunners could sanction his exit if a substantial bid lands on their doorstep.

A summer of serious rebuilding under Iraola

While Nwaneri’s talent is undisputed, the logistics of this deal feel incredibly far-fetched. First and foremost, the source of the rumour requires a heavy dose of skepticism. In the modern window, accounts with large followings often throw mud at the wall to see what sticks.

Furthermore, the reporting itself raises eyebrows, curiously referring to Liverpool as “Andoni Iraola’s side.” While Iraola is tasked with a massive rebuilding job after a deeply disappointing 2025/26 campaign, his primary focus and that of Richard Hughes lies elsewhere.

Following the seismic departure of Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s absolute priority in the market is recruiting elite, proven wingers. While Nwaneri would certainly be a “statement” signing for the future, he does not solve the immediate, gaping void left on the right flank.

Let’s call this what it likely is: agent maneuvering to drum up market interest for a player whose career has stalled slightly over the last six months.

There is no doubt that Ethan Nwaneri is a top-tier prospect. If Arsenal genuinely put him on the market, Liverpool’s recruitment team would be negligent not to at least ask the question. He has the versatility and technical security that Andoni Iraola craves in his midfield transition.

Keep an eye on Nwaneri’s situation, but don’t expect him to be holding up a Red shirt at the AXA Training Centre any time soon.

This one feels wide of the mark.
