Liverpool’s pursuit of a top-quality attacker has played out rather publicly this summer after Mohamed Salah’s departure.
Bradley Barcola has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield, but the Frenchman is currently at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is set to resolve his future after the tournament.
In the meantime, David Ornstein has provided a detailed update on the PSG attacker’s future, with Arsenal also in the race to secure his signature.
Liverpool are set to miss out on Yan Diomande to PSG, but it appears as if a happier ending could be on the cards in terms of Barcola as he could be on the move this summer.
Liverpool really interested in signing Barcola
Barcola has been a key player for club and country over the past 18 months.
However, at PSG, he is behind Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele in the pecking order, while the competition is just as incredible for his national team.
Ornstein feels Barcola would be open to a move to Arsenal or Liverpool, especially with his contract set to expire in less than two years.
“Liverpool really like Bradley Barcola. PSG would like to keep him, but they are realistic. He has only two years left on his contract. He’s not a regular starter, and he wants to be, so I suspect he would be open to a move if the right opportunity arose.
“Liverpool have him high in their thinking,” said Ornstein on the Athletic FC podcast.
“I imagine Barcola himself would be attracted to clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal, and so on.
“The price would be very high. Of course, we’ve got to keep a close eye on Barcola and Liverpool, but at this moment, I’m not sure it’s at an advanced stage. France are still in the tournament.
“PSG, I’m told, don’t want to trouble him or take his focus away from the World Cup, so, like with many situations, I would imagine this one starts to develop, in whatever shape or form, if that means staying, going, Liverpool or elsewhere, post-tournament.”
The Reds’ interest is well documented and with PSG also pursuing moves for Ferran Torres, Maghnes Akliouche and Diomande, they could be tempted to sell Barcola if a suitable offer comes and he refuses to renew his contract.
And with the World Cup set to conclude in less than a week from now, don’t be surprised to see this one heat up by the end of the month.
