The redevelopment of Anfield started to take noticeable shape as a 650-tonne truss was fitted onto the roof of the Main Stand.
The truss was hoisted up by two cranes yesterday, with the aim of securing it to the stand, but work had to be postponed due to high winds.
When finished, the Main Stand will be able to hold more than 20,000 people, taking the total capacity of Anfield to around 54,000.
This will also make the Main Stand one of the largest all-seater single stands in Europe.
The redevelopment of the Main Stand is the first stage of plans to redevelop Anfield as a whole, as the second phase of this development will involve expanding the Anfield Road end in order to hold another 4,800 people, taking Anfield’s maximum capacity to around 60,000.
This redevelopment of the stadium is part of a £260m scheme with the aim of redeveloping the whole Anfield area.
