Ajax remove Ziyech’s release clause – did Liverpool miss a trick?

Ajax have removed the €30 million release clause for midfielder Hakim Ziyech, amid interest from Premier League sides Liverpool and Arsenal, according to AS.

The Moroccan international was subject to interest from multiple clubs amid reports his release was set at just €30m, and the midfielder caught the eye of Liverpool, but a move never materialised.

But they weren’t the only club interested in Ziyech, with Premier League rivals Arsenal also touted with a move for the midfielder.

The Ajax star has impressed for many years in the Eredivisie, scoring 45 times and assisting 68 goals in his time at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

He has also shone on the European big stage, helping Ajax reach the Champions League semi-finals last year, playing an influential role in Ajax’s historical season.

With Liverpool lacking in midfield at times, he could have been an excellent addition to Jurgen Klopp’s world class squad. He would have not only added depth, but more attacking quality to what is a very strong side in the attacking departments.

Liverpool have really missed out on a bargain in Ziyech. For only €30m they would have got a quality attacking player, which would have provided competition to the attackers.

Liverpool could still make a move for the Moroccan, however, but the Reds will have to pay a much more substantial fee to secure the services of the midfielder.

If they were to go in for Ziyech, they would have to ensure they were getting a fair deal, especially considering his previous release clause.
