Raheem ‘Shaquille’ Sterling; born in Kingston Jamaica, has embraced the Kop with great pleasure and injected his pace and physique into Rodgers’ style of football.
The 19-year-old currently brings a range of assets not only to his club but also his country, and shows characteristics week-in week-out, to what some might call a rare footballing gem.
Currently the prolific youngster, who has often been tipped as the ‘next big thing’, has made a total of 93 appearances for Liverpool (in all competitions) and has netted a total of 15 goals, which is astounding for such a young talent.
Raheem experienced a range of footballing ability whilst playing alongside the controversial figure of Luis Suarez for the 2013/2014 season. During it, he made a name for himself and was praised and metaphorically hailed down upon by many, including our youngster-intrigued manager Brendan Rodgers. He was perhaps at the helm of Anfield last season, driving the mentality, the passion and demanding every bit of raw talent that he could from the talented Sterling.
Was this the right move by Rodgers and just how much has it impacted the youngster, especially in the 2014/2015 season?
Currently the teenager has been linked with a variety of clubs ranging from European ‘giants’ Real Madrid to local rivals Chelsea, many want his signature on paper, but Rodgers is determined to hold on to his diamond and polish him even further, as he remains at the tip of the formation behind the dynamic duo of Daniel Sturridge and the overshadowed Mario Balotelli.
But how much further can this teenager develop before reaching the peak of his career?
The stereotypical age bracket for a footballer to reach the peak of his career is between the age of 27 and 29, sterling being as young as 19 has a time period of 8 years to develop into a world class player. Whether Brendan is the man to help exploit all his strengths and eradicate his weaknesses is unknown, however.
One thing that critics can be in unison upon, is that Raheem Sterling has an overwhelming amount of confidence which is further boosted by the prestige that he has gained from the media, resulting in a well-balanced player, and all these assets he has – alongside the special relationship that he has obtained with Brendan Rodgers over the years – will surely propel him into a world class player.
Could we be witnessing our very own Messi?
