Arsenal made move for Liverpool target Zielinski

Arsenal made a move for Liverpool target Piotr Zielinski at the end of last season.

According to Calcio Mercato, Arsenal came in with an offer for Zielinski, which Napoli swiftly rejected.

The report claims that Zielinski was interested in a move to the Premier League and could still be tempted by a switch to The Emirates.

Liverpool were heavily linked with a swoop for Zielinski in the summer, with the Polish midfielder having a £57m release clause in his contract at Napoli.

It is said that Unai Emery is continuing to keep tabs on Zielinski as he plans for life after Aaron Ramsey.

The Welsh midfielder is due to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season and Zielinski is being eyed as a potential replacement.

Zielinski has scored twice in 10 appearances for Napoli this season and played over 100 games for the club since his move from Udinese in 2016.

The Polish international made 47 appearances for Napoli last season, scoring seven goals, and was one of the most impressive midfielders in the Serie A.

Liverpool are also thought to be interested in signing Aaron Ramsey, which could leave them in a position to sign him if Arsenal land Zielinski.
