Mario Balotelli has insisted that he always behaved like a professional throughout his time on Merseyside.
The Italian has returned to AC Milan, on a season-long loan, after failing to live up to his £16m price tag.
The 28-year-old scored only four goals in 28 appearances during his 12 months at Anfield.
However, Balotelli says he always accepted the decisions made by Brendan Rodgers.
“At the start I messed up a lot of easy chances, then I had fewer opportunities to score, a bit of bad luck, injuries,” Balotelli told Gazzetta dello Sport, as quoted in the Guardian.
It was a mess. However I never protested, I accepted the choices of the manager and always behaved like a professional.
The forward is infamous for his off-field antics; the Italian was caught smoking at Melwood and once finished training early to buy a new iPhone according to the Liverpool Echo.
Now that Balotelli has secured a fresh start in Milan, the forward is hoping to improve on the pitch.
“I have a promise to keep to myself, my family, Milan, (Sinisa) Mihajlovic and (Mino) Raiola who loves me,” added Balotelli.
“I know that I can not miss anything, I accept all the rules. I have not forgotten how to play football. I return full of energy and enthusiasm, willing to work.
“I’m 25 years old, no longer a child. I threw away too many chances already – I am grateful to Milan. Coming back here is a dream come true.”
In his first spell at AC Milan, Balotelli scored 26 goals in 37 Serie A appearances – including 12 in 12 in his first season.
Italy’s first black international player was awarded Man of the Match in one third of his league appearances in an AC shirt.
He also scored twice in six Champions League games for the Italian outfit.
Having also been at Inter Milan, he’s got a lot of experience playing at the San Siro even for a player of his age, so he may feel more relaxed there than at Anfield.
Aside from these three sides, he’s pulled on a shirt for Manchester City, where his only assist was to set up Sergio Aguero’s incredible league-winning goal in 2012 to snatch the title from their and Liverpool’s bitter rivals, Manchester United.
