Rafa Benitez has discussed the rivalry between himself and Jose Mourinho that existed during the 2000s.
Liverpool and Chelsea locked horns endless times in huge games earlier in the century, most notably in two Champions League semi-finals.
Both sets of supporters failed to get on, players on either side seemingly disliked one another and then there was Benitez and Mourinho.
The two managers’ relationship got increasingly worse the more the rivalry intensified, with words often exchanged in the media.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, Benitez actually played down the spat, saying both men were giving their all at the time, and that the issue is now in the past:
He was doing what he had to do, and I was doing what I had to do.
That was the reason why Liverpool were competing against a club spending double or triple the money we were spending.
But that’s all finished now.

In many ways, it was a little like the current rivalry between the Reds and Manchester City – two teams with top managers, going head-to-head for silverware.
