Benteke fighting for Liverpool future with Klopp unconvinced

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is yet to be sold on Christian Benteke, and the Reds forward is facing a battle to change the German’s mind, as per the Mail.

Sami Mokbel reports that Klopp’s staff are looking at potential striking targets that could be pursued in the summer.

Injuries to Divock Origi, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings mean it’s unlikely that Benteke will be sold in the January window, yet the £32.5m signing from Aston Villa could be offloaded at the end of the season.

The Belgian has scored seven goals in 21 appearances (14 starts) for the Reds, which isn’t a bad return, but his boss has urged him, per the Mirror, to move more and work harder up front.

Benteke didn’t start in Liverpool’s Capital One Cup semi-final first leg win over Stoke City on Tuesday night, but Klopp’s shortage of options could see him throw the 25-year-old back into the fold at Exeter City on Friday night.
