Benteke names two Reds in five-a-side team

Christian Benteke has named two Liverpool players in his best five-a-side team consisting of past and present team mates.

In an interview with fellow Belgian and Reds player Simon Mignolet, in a Liverpool FC collaboration with Subway, the 24-year-old striker said that his ideal five-man line-up would be: “[Eden] Hazard, [Philippe] Coutinho, [Kevin] De Bruyne, [Jack] Grealish, [Divock] Origi.”

When asked what the most impressive thing about his new club is, Benteke said: “The atmosphere around the club. You can see that you are in a big club here.”

The former Aston Villa frontman also revealed what he wants to achieve as a Liverpool player:

I want to win some trophies and I want to really be successful here for the club.

Benteke was partly responsible for Liverpool’s failure to win a trophy last season. In the FA Cup semi-final between the Reds and Villa, he scored the equaliser for Tim Sherwood’s side after Coutinho had given the Merseysiders the lead.

Villa went on to win the game 2-1 and reach the final, while Liverpool finished the campaign without a trophy for the third term in succession.

In the summer, Benteke was always Liverpool’s prime target. Eventually, the Reds paid the £32.5m that Villa were after, and he came the new number nine at Anfield.

He netted on his home debut against Bournemouth, and scored an extraordinary overhead kick at Old Trafford, but an injury sustained in the home game against Norwich City has ruled him out up to now.

The former Genk hitman, who is back in training, will hope to be back as soon as possible and force his way into new manager Jurgen Klopp’s plans.
