Can unlikely to make Champions League final

Emre Can is looking increasingly unlikely to be back to fitness in time to feature against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Final, according to The Telegraph.

Can is currently in his native Germany, where on Monday he had a scan on his back injury which he received in the 5-0 win at Anfield against Watford.

However, the results of the scan were inconclusive and further tests will be taken as to whether he can return to Melwood and start training again next week.

If he were to return to Merseyside, which would be next Monday at the very earliest, he would still have just shy of a fortnight to prove he fit for the Champions League Final.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said in a recent interview (via The Telegraph):

Emre will be assessed on Monday to check how it has improved.

He has done a lot of things and it feels really good but in the end you always need a doctor to tell you, ‘now it’s fine, now you can go again’. That’s the situation. I think he will have a scan on Monday and then we will know more.

It would be good news for the final.

matchday.
