Should Liverpool reach 100 points this season, it will surely be enough to end that long wait for a Premier League title.
The Reds secured an enormous victory on Sunday afternoon, winning 2-1 at Chelsea to go five points clear at the top of the table.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher claimed a century of points has to be the aim this season:
I think for both sides, whether they get there or not, the target has got to be 100 points.
City got 100 points two years ago, 98 last season, and you can only drop 14 points then, so a draw is not a good result.
In the past, 10 or 15 years ago, you go away to United, Chelsea, Arsenal, you get a point and your happy but City have changed that in the last few years, so actually coming away and drawing is not a good result.
To actually get to the three points, and don’t forget the record of Liverpool in these games last season, that’s where they lost the league because City came to these grounds and won, so it is a big one.

Such is the freakish level of consistency that Liverpool and Manchester City have shown in the past 12 months – City have done it for two years – dropped points in any game does feel damaging.
Carragher is, therefore, spot on in his assessment, as the Reds look to end what will be 30 years of hurt come next May.
In years gone by, titles were being won with in and around 80 points, but that will be a total that is nowhere near good enough in 2019/20.
Liverpool find themselves in a fantastic position, having won their first six matches, but they must be wary of a formidable City team.
They are capable of winning 18 games in a row, as they did in 2017/18, so any slip-up from Jurgen Klopp’s men could end up being fatal.
