Chelsea in ‘pole position’ to land Reds target Werner

Chelsea have reportedly moved to the front of the queue of clubs who are interested in signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.

According to claims on Calciomercato, the Blues have emerged as the leading contenders to sign the Germany international, who has been touted as a target for Liverpool.

Werner has netted 18 goals in the Bundesliga so far this season and could depart Leipzig, with the striker recently confirming that a move to the Premier League would be attractive.

We reckon that Werner possesses the necessary skillset and ability to provide Liverpool’s squad with an exciting new dimension.

Roberto Firmino is a creative forward whose primary quality is freeing up the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, as opposed to scoring consistently himself.

The Brazilian is integral to Jurgen Klopp’s system, but providing him with competition, and also supplying the manager with a different style of forward, would be intelligent.

Werner has shown that he is a pure goalscorer throughout the past few years; his tally of 18 for Leipzig under Julian Nagelsmann this season only further reflects his prowess.

Upon viewing the forward in action, it is evident that his strengths lie in his dynamism and drive to burst in behind defences and mercilessly strike in front of goal.

Divock Origi may be a competent backup option for the Reds, but we feel Werner would elevate Liverpool to an even higher level.
