Chirivella wants Liverpool exit this summer

Pedro Chirivella wants to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, according to La Razon.

The Spaniard has enjoyed arguably his best season yet for the Reds, making six appearances and shining in the domestic cup competitions.

Despite this, Chirivella is seemingly keen on a fresh challenge away from Anfield, and will spend the rest of this season in Liverpool’s Under-23s at his own request, so he can play regular football before looking to leave at the end of the campaign.

The 22-year-old’s contract expires this summer, having joined in 2015. If he does leave, he could join Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri in heading for the Anfield exit door.

Chirivella moving on at the end of the season makes complete sense for all parties and it will allow him to go out on something of a high.

The midfielder has shown his quality when given the chance this season, but ultimately, regular first-team opportunities are not going to come his way moving forward.

Chirivella turns 23 later this year and he is at a point where he should be playing regularly at senior level.

With the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all ahead of him in the midfield pecking order, that chance is unlikely to come at Anfield.

I think he has done enough this season to suggest he can be an asset for a top-flight club, however, combining quality on the ball with good leadership, acting as an influential teammate to his even younger colleagues in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
