Former Liverpool man El-Hadji Diouf has revealed that he believes current winger Sadio Mane deserves to win the Ballon d’Or award more than Kylian Mbappe.
The Paris Saint Germain youngster enjoyed a stellar season for club and country, winning the Ligue 1 title and the World Cup.
However, Mane was influential in helping Jurgen Klopp’s side lift the UEFA Champions League. As quoted on Sport Witness, who source LeParisien, Diouf said:
I think Sadio Mané had a better year than Kylian Mbappé. He deserves the Ballon d’Or more on a personal and collective point of view. We can’t compare the French and English leagues. There’s more effort required in the Premier League.
For me, the podium would be Lionel Messi, Virgil Van Dijk and Mané just by the leagues they play in.
Does Mane deserve to win the prestigious award?

Why not? He was one of Liverpool’s main players last season and netted 22 times in the Premier League, finishing as the joint top goal-scorer.
Even though Mbappe scored 39 times in all competitions last season, Diouf’s remarks about the difficulty and competitive nature of the Premier League makes sense.
Overall, winning it could be a step too far for Mane this year, but finishing in the top three is certainly a big possibility.
