Everton turned down the chance to sign Curtis Jones, according to The Athletic’s Simon Hughes.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Liverpool, scoring a memorable winning goal in the all-Merseyside FA Cup clash in January.
Ironically, Everton could have signed Jones as a child, in a fascinating turn of events.
It is claimed that the Blues opted against bringing him to Goodison Park because of a cockiness to his game, with Cristiano Ronaldo among his childhood idols.

Liverpool must feel lucky that Everton were unconvinced by Jones, with the midfielder now one of the most promising teenagers in the country.
Were he at Goodison now, he could even be featuring prominently under Carlo Ancelotti, considering their midfield isn’t quite at the level of Liverpool’s.
The Reds’ rivals could be kicking themselves for years to come, should Jones continue on his current trajectory. He still has a lot of work to do before he can be considered a genuine success at Anfield, but this season suggests the sky could be the limit, with two goals in eight appearances to his name.
Jones has already shown that he has outgrown the U23s and some fans are hoping to see more of him in the first-team squad in the near future.
