Ex-Liverpool manager: Reds are not good enough

Former Liverpool manager Graeme Souness has claimed that the Reds are “not good enough”, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

It was another dismal day to be a Liverpool supporter as Jurgen Klopp’s men were swept aside by a more dynamic, more fluid, more solid Watford side that tore the Reds’ defence apart.

Mamadou Sakho, Martin Skrtel (later on to be replaced at centre-back by Lucas) and co. were ripped to shreds by the in-form striking partnership of Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney. Ighalo scored twice, with Deeney setting up his first goal.

Klopp must have realised it was not going to be his day when his side went 1-0 down after just a few minutes when stand-in ‘keeper Adam Bogdan dropped the ball not once, but twice in a matter of seconds to gift Nathan Ake a goal.

After the match, Souness said live on Sky Sports that this current Liverpool side is not good enough to live up to the fans’ high expectations.

I don’t think the players are good enough and there’s a lot of work ahead for them. They got off to a terrible start but you are looking for a reaction at that time and for the players to be angry and not to feel sorry for themselves. The bottom line, when you cut away all the excuses, [is] are they good enough? It’s not a quick fix. They’ve got some decent players and some that might get better but it’s going to be a long road for them.
