Alexis Mac Allister to Man Utd? Fabrizio Romano issues ‘concrete’ update on Liverpool star’s future

Alexis Mac Allister’s agent has given an update on the midfielder’s future after rumours linking the Argentine with a summer move to rivals Manchester United.

The winter transfer window closed two weeks ago, but football’s rumour mill still churns out headlines. Recent reports now link the Argentine with a shock move to rivals Manchester United, sparking intense speculation across the league.

The 27-year-old struggled to recapture the form he displayed during Liverpool’s title charge last year. A disruptive pre-season clearly hampered the midfielder, leaving the World Cup winner looking like a shadow of his former self on the pitch.

Consequently, many believe the time has come to cash in on the former Brighton star.

The Argentine has looked a shadow of himself on the pitch at times, leading many to believe it may be time to cash in on the World Cup winner soon. Amidst this, questions regarding his future continue to circulate.

However, recent comments from his agent suggest that the midfielder’s Liverpool future is far from over.

“We will see what the club’s plan is”

Mac Allister’s agent, and father, Carlos, has recently spoken out amidst the rumours linking his son with an Anfield exit. In fact, his name has consistently appeared in these discussions.

Speaking to WinWin, Carlos was quizzed on the recent Manchester United rumours

“Alexis is only focused on Liverpool at the moment”, said Carlos, referencing the singular focus has maintained despite speculation.

The agent then followed it up by suggesting that Mac Allister’s future remains in Liverpool’s hands despite the transfer gossip.

“We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract”, Carlos continued, referring to the hopes around Mac Allister future.

“We will see what the club’s plan is.”

Fabrizio Romano shuts down Mac Allister transfer rumours

As Liverpool ponder whether to keep Mac Allister, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also added his perspective to the transfer rumours surrounding the Argentine.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano dismissed any rumours linking Mac Allister with a move across the M62, including those involving the Liverpool midfielder.

“At the moment, I am not aware of anything really concrete or really strong in terms of links between Manchester United and Alexis Mac Allister”, he said, directly referencing speculation about Mac Allister.

If history is anything to go by, then Romano is probably right.

Liverpool and United rarely do direct business with each other, with only eight players transferring between the two clubs in history. Notably, none were players like the World Cup winner.

Moreover, the last of those was in 1964 when Phil Chisnall left Old Trafford to play for Bill Shankly’s Liverpool, a story quite distant from today’s transfer narratives.

When does Mac Allister’s Liverpool contract expire?

Currently, the 26-year-old is tied to Anfield for another three years, with a deal running until the summer of 2029.

By the time that contract expires, the Argentine will be 29, leading some to suggest now is the optimal window to cash in before his market value plummets.

However, the World Cup winner finds himself in the same boat as teammate Dominik Szoboszlai, as both players may soon seek improved terms to reflect their importance to the squad, and Mac Allister situation is drawing particular attention.
