Virgil van Dijk produced another colossal performance at the heart of Liverpool’s defence on Saturday afternoon.
The 28-year-old was imperious in all facets of his play, from his positional sense to his leadership.
The Liverpool Echo have posted on Twitter asking Liverpool fans to rank their five greatest Reds centre-backs of the Premier League era, which makes for interesting reading.
Many gave their opinions and it was no great surprise to see Van Dijk feature so prominently.

Read Liverpool Verdict
Football supporters can sometimes be accused of recency bias when it comes to topics such as these.
In this case, however, Van Dijk being at the top of so many fans’ lists is fully justified.
He is a truly special centre-back, perhaps even a once-in-a-generation defender, and he remains the most important player at Liverpool.
An injury to the Dutchman would have an almighty impact on the Reds’ season, so keep him fitting is imperative.
He is already a Liverpool legend and he hasn’t yet celebrated his two-year anniversary at Anfield.
