Neco Williams was superb for Liverpool on Tuesday night, as the Reds got the better of Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup fourth round.
Marauding down the right flank, the Welshman provided constant energy and quality, much in the way Trent Alexander-Arnold does week in, week out.
Williams also played a key role in the only goal of the game – a comical own goal by Ro-Shaun Williams.
The right-back’s dangerous long ball into the penalty area was headed into his own net by the Shrewsbury defender, sending Liverpool into round five, where they will visit Chelsea.
Williams deservedly earned lots of praise after the victory, with former Reds left-back Stephen Warnock particularly vocal about his potential.
He told BBC Sport that the teenager could earn a call-up to Wales’ senior squad, such was his quality.
Who knows? Sometimes you need that outsider. There are players who play for Wales, who don’t play that much club football, because the quality they possess might be better than what’s already in the squad. I definitely think Neco could be one of those players.
These supporters of various clubs up and down the country have been quick to shoot down Warnock’s opinion, however, claiming it is knee-jerk and over-the-top.
Possibly the stupidest thing I've read this season.
