It’s only natural that Steven Gerrard is being tipped to become Jurgen Klopp’s successor as Liverpool manager in the future.
The 39-year-old is impressing in charge of Rangers and Klopp himself has even talked up the Reds legend as a future boss at Anfield.
Gerrard admits he is “flattered” to be linked with managing his boyhood club, but hopes Klopp is there for a long time yet, continuing to enjoy great success:
I was surprised and flattered at the same time.
Jurgen Klopp’s not getting sacked tomorrow. I don’t want him to get sacked tomorrow. He’s doing a fantastic job.
I’m a Liverpool fan. I’m sure every Liverpool fan on the planet endorses what I’m saying here. We want him to stay for many, many years and bring as much success to our club as possible.
These Liverpool supporters have been reacting to Gerrard’s comments on Twitter.

Good answer Stevie! Think he needs a bigger challenge than Rangers before going to Liverpool but he's doing a good job with ridiculously limited resources

Lijnders would be a good replacement if Klopp needs a year break

Read Liverpool Verdict
It’s refreshing to hear Gerrard be so honest and speak like a Liverpool fan, knowing full well how indispensable Klopp is currently.
The Reds arguably have the world’s best manager in charge of them and the hope is that he will be at Anfield for many years to come.
The time will arrive when Klopp does move on, however – hopefully went into the 2020s – and it will be interesting to see where Gerrard is in his managerial career at that point.
He certainly shouldn’t be given the job simply because he enjoyed a legendary playing career – he must get it on merit or not at all.
