Fantasy Football Blog – Week 2

Fantasy Football Blog – Week 2

Gameweek 2 has been and gone. Thousands of managers up and down the country were celebrating another glorious week of Fantasy Football, whilst others were left figuring out where it went wrong.

In the #LFCTwitterarti league 50% of the teams hit the 100 point mark which is very good going after only two gameweeks.

A team that has jumped up into third spot in the league is OZZY LFC managed by Craig Austin.

This week I caught up with Craig to get his thoughts on how it has all gone so far.

First, let’s have a look at his squad.

Mark: So far, so good mate.

Craig: Yeah had a decent start to the season, I kept the same formation as I used in week one and made 2 changes in personnel, kept the same back four as last week as I felt confident in getting a few clean sheets from them and my goalkeeper.

Mark: Explain more about why you play with the 4-3-3 Formation.

Craig: More because of players I wanted to get into my side and what I could get on the bench. I always tend to use 3 forwards on FPL in the hope of gaining more points.  I may change it up to 3-4-3 as the weeks go on though. I’m waiting to see how the international break goes first.

Mark: You took a -4 point this week. Can you tell us more about your transfer activity in Gameweek 2 please?

Craig: Yeah made 2 changes this week mate, taking out David Silva and Shane Long and replacing them with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wilfred Bony. I felt there was a good chance in these 2 picking up points with a home fixture against Burnley.

Mark: Diego Costa has started the season very well. Over one million managers have him in their teams. Three questions in one here. What made you pick him? Will he be in for the season now? Or are you looking to move on since his recent injury scare?

Craig: Costa had a good start mate, picking up a few goals. He’s a top quality forward who I knew would score goals in that Chelsea side. I assumed a lot of players would have him in their teams, so was important not to lose ground and beat any potential price hike. I was planning on him being in for a while, but have to see what happens with his hamstrings.

(NOTE: As of writing it is not clear to the extent of Diego Costa’s injury)

Mark: Without giving too much away for Gameweek 3, are you planning on making any changes to your squad?

Craig: I may make one change this week, wont be looking to make two as I don’t want to incur a points deduction again. However, I won’t be telling you who is coming in though. I’ve a league to win here! =)

Mark: Explain your subs bench Ozzy…

Craig: Initially it was basically whom I could get in for the money I had left to spend. James McCarthy and James Ward-Prowse are both players who will play every week. So the way I look at it is that they will always pick up at least 2 points, (Hopefully).  Bakayogo is only £4m, and was a last minute decision to put in. Could do with maybe moving him on in the coming weeks. Watch this space.

Mark: You’re currently one of 20 LFC Twitterarti accounts in the league. Looking at this list, which other manager do you want to finish above this season?

Craig: I’m pretty competitive mate to be honest and if I gave one specific name I would be lying as my aim is to finish above all of the people in the league. There are some pretty well known twitter names amongst us in this league, so just to spice it up id like to make sure I finished above Graeme Kelly and Ste Hoare. =)

Mark: Shots fired there Ozzy, mate! Any players which are not in your squad that you will be looking to bring in over the coming weeks?

Craig: I don’t look to far ahead mate if I’m honest. I basically play it on a week-to-week basis and just keep an eye on what players are coming into and out of form and base it around that and the fixtures each week.

Mark: What do you think about Naismith of Everton? Will he be able to continue his good start to the season?

Craig: He has had a fantastic start to the season mate yes, he gets himself into some brilliant positions in the box and the way Everton attack he will keep getting a lot of chances so think he could score quite a few goals this season.

Mark: Finally, why haven’t you picked any Manchester Utd players?

Craig: Although a lot of people thought they were handed an “easy” start to the season, their first two fixtures I viewed as potential banana skins. The formation LVG wants to play with the Jones, Smalling and Evans at the back looks like they would struggle to keep clean sheets. Over 46% of all Fantasy Managers put Rooney into their team, I saw there being better value elsewhere and it has proved successful so far.
