Curtis Jones trains with first-team ahead of Spurs visit

Fresh from signing his first professional contract on Thursday, Curtin Jones continued a fine week by joining Jurgen Klopp’s first-team training session on Friday.

Jones signed professional terms on his 17th birthday yesterday, and is now expected to link up with Neil Critchley’s Premier League 2 squad, having previously played with Steven Gerrard’s Under-18s.

While his Under-18s teammates were in action against Stoke at the Kirkby Academy on Friday evening, the young forward was instead trainging alonside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino at Melwood ahead of Sunday’s visit to Tottenham.

On Jones’ development, Gerrard said;

I’m really pleased and proud of Curtis this season, for his effort and commitment to the team cause and he has added big numbers to his game.

We will probably see Curtis more with the Under-23s now, and he has earned that.

In terms of the day, for him it’s very special. Let’s hope he goes from strength to strength now and he sees this as the beginning.

Virgil van Dijk also trained as the Reds’ were put through their paces, having missed Tuesday nights win over Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Adam Lallana was also involved in the session, and could return to the squad on Sunday.
