Records continue to tumble and the Reds roll on, as Liverpool sink Spurs 0-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Winning their 20th match of the season, Liverpool needed to fight for the victory in a performance that perhaps looked less than peerless. For the first 75 minutes, the Reds were in complete control. In the last 15 minutes, they made things a bit more nervy than necessary.
Taking on the side they beat in the Champions League final on their home turf, managed by Jose Mourinho who holds a special place as a spoiler against Liverpool, it was always going to be a challenging fixture.
Still, the Reds should have won this with ease by the end of the first half.
Liverpool almost struck immediately with an excellent sequence in the first three minutes. Two successive opportunities went wasted when Roberto Firmino sliced through the box and had his shot blocked just off the line with the ball eventually falling to Mo Salah, whose shot was kept out by the post.
Eventually, the Reds would breakthrough in the 37th minute, when Salah worked the ball in the box and found Firmino for a tidy finish and the lead.
Spurs had some chances on the counter but failed in front of the net. Firmino’s score would prove to be all that was needed despite the discomfort they might have experienced late on.
