Danny Ings is set to start for Liverpool in the FA Cup this weekend, over two years since he last took his place amongst the starting lineup.
The England striker scored on his last start in the Merseyside derby, and Brendan Rodgers’ final game before he was sacked, in October 2015. After suffering multiple lengthy injuries, the forward is finally set to return to a Liverpool XI.
Ings first snapped his cruciate ligaments in his left knee during Jurgen Klopp’s very first training session as Liverpool manager.
Having then recovered from an injury that kept him out for an extraordinary amount of time, Ings would go on to snap the cartilage in his right knee in November 2016, right after he made his first comeback, ruling him out for another nine months.
This horrible run has seen the former Burnely man make just seven substitute appearances for the Reds’ over the last 27 months.
Now however, Ings will get his shot, having seemingly replaced Daniel Sturridge as back up to Roberto Firmino.
Klopp has already ruled out the prospect of the 25-year old leaving on loan this month, despite receiving a number of enquiries. Instead, it looks likely Sturridge will be the one to depart.
Inter Milan have made an offer for the former Chelsea man, while both Sevilla and Roma have expressed an interest in a loan deal.
