Joel Matip is struggling with injury ahead of the busy festive season, and Liverpool fear they could be without him for a month, according to the Telegraph.
Matip’s absence would leave just two senior centre backs in Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan before this weekend’s game against Brighton. However, that number rises if Klopp decides to field Joe Gomez in his natural position, which could certainly happen with so many fixtures coming up.
Gomez has shone whenever he has had the chance to play in his preferred position, a position he played for England recently, however the Reds’ usually use him as a full-back.
In other news on Merseyside, Klopp shot down rumours that have persisted this week in Catalan media, which claim Liverpool have named their price for Philippe Coutinho and will agree to sanction a sale if Barcelona agree to pay it.
Klopp insists that Coutinho is still very much an integral member of Liverpool’s squad. He said;
Named a price? Interesting.
Of course Phil is still essential for us. Should we stop thinking about him in the moment just because there are more stories about him in the newspapers in Spain?
There is absolutely nothing else to say about this.
