Much has been made of Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation over the years, and it’s certainly a hot topic at the moment.
The Reds currently have three senior goalkeepers in the squad: Simon Mignolet, Loris Karius and Danny Ward.
Mignolet has been labelled on several occasions as Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper by Jurgen Klopp, and has been the man between the sticks in most of the games since the German boss arrived at Anfield.
Karius, on the other hand, joined last summer, and has flattered to deceive. Since his move from Mainz, he has been inconsistent, and has failed to tie down a regular starting place.
Ward is very much Liverpool’s third choice goalkeeper at the moment, and started for the Reds in their recent Carabao Cup defeat to Leicester. He enjoyed a hugely successful campaign with Huddersfield last season, and has come back to Anfield a far more accomplished goalkeeper.
The Reds fans are hugely divided on who the team’s first choice goalkeeper should be. So, we posed the question to the Liverpool fan-base on Twitter following Karius’ questionable display in the Champions League draw against Spartak Moscow!

Over 1000 Liverpool fans voted in the poll on Twitter, which gave us a good sample size to assess.
The winner was, of course, Simon Mignolet.
The Belgian international came out on top having won 49% of the votes, defeating his teammates Karius and Ward. The former earned just 9% of the votes, while Ward was interestingly voted as the Reds’ best option by 42%.

Mignolet has been a consistent figure in Liverpool’s success in recent times, and had a positive season last term. He remains the Reds’ first choice goalkeeper in Jurgen Klopp’s eyes, and it seems the fans agree too…
