Liverpool defender injured on international duty

Liverpool have been dealt a blow with defender Joe Gomez being forced off with an ankle injury just minutes into England’s friendly tie with the Netherlands.

The young Liverpool star hobbled off and was replaced by Leicester City’s Harry Maguire in the Three Lions’ makeshift back-three.

The Reds’ still have two representatives in the England XI against the Clockwork Orange, with captain Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain manning the midfield.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that Gomez’ injury isn’t too serious, with the club’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg tie against Manchester City to be played in just under two weeks time.
