VAR has once again become the talking point in a Premier League fixture, as Liverpool beat Aston Villa 2-1.
Villa winger Trezeguet scored on the 20 minute mark at Villa Park and it looked for the longest time like the Reds would lose their unbeaten run in the league.
Andy Robertson equalised late on and Sadio Mane snatched the victory at the death, which would give Liverpool a vital three points to keep far ahead of Manchester City in the Premier League table.
However the main talking point came minutes after Villa opened the scoring, with Roberto Firmino bundling home a Sadio Mane cross, although he was adjudged to have been offside according to the new offside rules following a VAR check.

Many Liverpool fans weren’t content with this though, with freeze-frame images showing the incident to be far too close to call, where in previous years the goal would likely have stood as the Reds would have had the benefit of the doubt.
As such, several fans took to Twitter to express their frustrations with the burgeoning technology, replying to Piers Morgan’s tweet that slams VAR for its supposed ineffectiveness.

Whether you agree with VAR or not, it has undoubtedly become the most divisive talking point every single weekend.
VAR was brought about to limit the amount of controversial talking points every weekend, effectively eliminated the clear-cut mistakes, however it has only worked to amplify the amount of frustration fans feel on a weekly basis.
It is essential that VAR is implemented to eliminate error, but it needs to be further developed first because right now it does little more than damage the game.
