Liverpool interested in Pavard deal next summer

Liverpool are interested in signing Stuttgart defender Benjamin Pavard next summer, according to reports.

Jurgen Klopp has a solid centre-back quartet this season in Virgil van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, but reports have suggested that the German coach wants to further strengthen that position before next campaign.

Pavard was a revelation for France in this summer’s World Cup, having impressed last season in the Bundesliga.

Primarily a centre-half, Pavard played right-back throughout the tournament and earned plaudits, particularly for his stunning 20-yard half-volley strike against Argentina.

Bayern Munich had been reported to have been interested in securing his signature this summer, but it appears that Pavard is likely to remain at the Mercedes-Benz Arena for the current campaign.

However, beginning in 2019, Pavard will have a €35million release clause become active, should Stuttgart fail to qualify for the Champions League, which is said to be way lower than his current worth.

While Stuttgart would like him to stay at the club beyond the current campaign, the club are braced for the likelihood that he will leave.

And according to outlet KickOff, Liverpool will spearhead the pursuit of the 22-year old.
