Liverpool once again showed their true powers of recovery this afternoon, coming from a goal down to beat Aston Villa 2-1 in the dying embers of the game.
Trezeguet scored the goal for the Villans, while Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane struck late to win the three points for the Reds.
After quite an open start to the game where Mane had a good chance to open the scoring, Villa took the lead after a John McGinn free-kick was bundled home by Trezeguet.
Liverpool thought they had equalised moments later when Roberto Firmino tucked Mane’s cross away. However, the assistant referee raised his offside flag and the VAR check did not overturn the decision.
Jurgen Klopp’s men had other chances to equalise in the second half, but they weren’t taking their chances.
Eventually, in the 86th minute, Mane flung in a beautiful cross for Robertson to score. Then, in the 94th minute, a Trent Alexander-Arnold corner was headed in at the far post by provider turned goalscorer Mane to send the away end into a frenzy.
