Matip is looking forward to ‘massive fight’ on Sunday

Liverpool defender Joel Matip is expecting a ‘massive’ Merseyside derby when the club take on Everton on Sunday.

The Reds haven’t been beaten by the Toffees at Anfield since 1999, however a run of good form from the Blues looks certain to make Sunday’s fixture an interesting one.

Liverpool are unbeaten so far this season in the Premier League, and 27-year old Matip believes the club must get a positive result to ensure they stay in the title chase.

Talking about the ‘special’ fixture, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, Matip said:

It’s something special for the players, for the people of the town, because with two big clubs like Everton and Liverpool in one town that’s something special.

For all the supporters this is a special game. If you are in the stadium then you already feel it’s something different.

You see the atmosphere and then you know that the next 90 minutes it will be difficult. Every game is a fight but this will be a massive fight.

If you lose nobody wants to talk to an Everton fan the next day. I think it means a lot to all the people and to us.
