Molby believes Doucoure would be a great signing for Liverpool

Former Liverpool star Jan Mølby believes Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré would be a great signing for the club.

The 25-year old French midfielder has been linked with a move to Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp said to be looking for a midfielder that fits Doucouré’s style of play.

If Klopp decides to pursue a deal for the former Rennes midfielder, it will cost the club around £35million.

Doucouré won Watford’s Hornet of the Year Award last year, and has continued his good form into the current campaign, and the potential to elevate Liverpool’s midfield has attracted the interest of Mølby.

Talking about a prospective deal, as written in the Liverpool Echo, Mølby said:

I can absolutely see why Liverpool are being linked with Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucouré.

I’m a big fan of his and have been for a few years now.

Doucouré is a modern-day midfielder. He covers the ground very, very quickly but there’s a lot more to his game than that.

Every time I have seen him, he has admittedly looked a bit sloppy.

But the way to sharpen him up is to train and play with better players. He’d have that at Liverpool.

Sometimes when you look at players, you are looking at potential, and I think there is untapped potential in Doucouré’s game.

He is a good footballer and he sees things very well. He has played some passes this season that obviously don’t get highlighted the way they deserve, but he looks a really, really good player.

Midfield is the one area where maybe I’m looking for a little bit more than what we have at present.

And signing Doucouré would take a lot of risks out of play. He’s already played in the Premier League, he has settled into life in England, and those things are important.
