Red Star Belgrade supporters banned from attending Liverpool away tie

Liverpool have been handed a boost ahead of their Champions League tie against Red Star Belgrade next month, with supporters of the Serbian club banned from attending Anfield.

The Serbia champions will travel to England on October 24 for the third game in Group C, which also includes European heavyweights Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, no supporters will be allowed to join them, after the club were hit by disciplinary action by UEFA for incidents during the club’s dramatic play-off second leg tie against FC Salzburg.

Having drawn the game 2-2 and sending Red Star through, there was a pitch invasion from the fans, while fireworks were let off and acts of damages were described, as well as the throwing of objects.

UEFA decided to come down hard on the club, also banning fans from travelling to Paris for their away draw with PSG.

It means the Reds will have an exclusively Liverpool-filled Anfield on October 24, giving the home side a huge advantage over Red Star.
