Salah wins BBC African Player of the Year award

Mohamed Salah has won the 2018 BBC African Footballer of the Year award.

The Egypt international beat out competition from teammate Sadio Mané, as well as Medhi Benatia, Kalidou Koulibaly and Thomas Partey to claim the annual prize.

Salah, who came out as the top choice from the five-man shortlist voted on by online supporters, becomes the first player since Jay-Jay Okocha to win in consecutive years.

The former Roma and Chelsea man enjoyed his career best season last campaign, scoring 44 goals in all competitions to take the Reds to the Champions League final, while also leading his country at the 2018 World Cup.

His form, while slightly understated, has continued this term, with Salah currently the joint-top Premier League goalscorer with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on ten goals, while he has 13 in all competitions.
