After the disappointing draw at Old Trafford, Liverpool needed to find the right response to dispel any notions they are undeserving of remaining top of the table. Playing host to Watford, the Reds roared past Watford 5-0 at Anfield.
Since last season’s opening day surrender for a 3-3 draw, the Reds have battered Watford 13-0 over the course of three matches. If there is a better club to help Liverpool kick on and find their form, they will be hard to find. The Merseysiders make the most of this particular mid-table club.
Sadio Mane got the home side off to a bright start and his back heel might have finished the fixture were it not for the whole second half to play. It hardly made a difference, the home side put the visitors to the sword in front of an animated Anfield crowd.
The second half saw Liverpool deal with their own pressure by pouring it onto Watford. Divock Origi’s strike made a case that he deserves to be higher up the pecking order of substitutes. Then came a pair of headed goals from Virgil van Dijk to emphatically end any memories of dropped points.
Here are four findings from the match.
