Liverpool returned to Premier League action with a 1-0 win against Stoke City at the Britannia on Sunday, revenge for a hugely disappointing 6-1 defeat inflicted by the Potters on the Reds on the closing day of last season.

Philippe Coutinho scored a stunning winner from distance, as Brendan Rodgers began the season with a win, despite a less than exciting game for the most part.

Both teams have brought in a large number of players this summer, and four of Liverpool’s were in from the start at the Britannia, while four more started on the bench in their first game as a Liverpool player.

Youngster Jordon Ibe also started, with many Liverpool fans still calling him better than Raheem Sterling, and he played most of the game before being replaced by Roberto Firmino late on.
