Gerrard “the best I’ve seen”, claims Milner

James Milner has heaped praise on Steven Gerrard, describing the Liverpool legend as “the best I’ve seen.”

The 33-year-old narrowly missed out on playing with Gerrard at Anfield, having joined just after his exit in the summer of 2015.

The pair shared many dressing rooms with England, however, getting to know each other well.

Speaking to This Is Anfield, Milner claims Gerrard is the most complete footballer he has ever played alongside:

He was a tough player [to play against]! I was lucky enough to play with him at England and the difference when he was in the session and when he wasn’t [was noticeable].

The tempo just lifted. Even in a one-touch session, the passes he made, the pace he put on them and you’re expected to deal with them – that was the level he played at.

As an all-round player, he’s probably the best I’ve seen. He could do everything, both feet, score goals, defend, tackle, get about the field and lead by example.

An unbelievable player to play with and horrible to play against.

It is easy to occasionally forget what a special player Gerrard was, particularly when this current Reds side are breaking records left, right and centre.

He was an extraordinary talent who is undoubtedly one of the most complete players in the history of English football.

Milner is playing alongside some incredible individuals currently, but none are as good as Gerrard at his peak.

Whether it was passing, shooting, sprinting, tackling, heading or leading by example, he had the lot.
