Henderson admits he can improve

Having just signed a new five-year deal with the club, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson says that there is still room for him to improve his performances, the Liverpool Echo report.

Despite holding the captain’s armband at the club, the midfielder has a tough fight on his hands to guarentee himself a regular place in the Liverpool starting XI after Jurgen Klopp boosted his midfield options this summer with the signings of Naby Keita and Fabinho.

Henderson is currently away on international duty with England but spoke to Sky Sports after his new deal at Anfield was announced:

I feel that when you’re playing football you can always improve, no matter what age you are.

I can certainly improve and be better in certain areas.

Under Jurgen Klopp there’s no better manager to do that really. He helps us a lot on and off the field and I want to continue to do that.

The 28-year-old joined Liverpool back in 2011 after then-Liverpool manager Kenny Dalgliesh signed Henderson from his home club Sunderland.

Henderson now believes he is in the best shape that he has been in during his career.

I feel as though I’m in a good period in my career with the balance of experience and still having the youth.

Physically as well, I feel in good shape, it’s a good time for me and for Liverpool as well – and for England – so it’s all positive at the minute.

At the same time I need to keep working hard to play football because there’s so many good players here and at club level.

You’ve got to keep improving otherwise you get left behind so that’s what I intend to do and be the best I can be for the teams that I play for.
