Henderson’s potential Atletico return could spell bad news for Fabinho

Jordan Henderson is in line for a return to the Liverpool side against Atletico Madrid, according to the Evening Standard’s David Lynch and that could spell bad news for Fabinho.

The 29-year-old has been out with a hamstring injury since the 1-0 defeat to Ateltico in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash.

This update suggests Henderson may be back for Wednesday’s crucial game, however, acting as a huge boost for the Reds.

The Liverpool skipper resumed training on Sunday, as he pushes hard for a starting berth in midweek.

I think Henderson’s return spells potential trouble for Fabinho, who has been well off the pace since returning from injury.

The Brazilian has lacked influence and looked leggy in the middle of the park, suggesting he is still struggling to find full fitness. He was poor again on Saturday despite Liverpool beating Bournemouth 2-1, with This Is Anfield giving him a five-out-of-10 rating.

Should Henderson be deemed fit enough to start, I would be tempted to use him in the No.6 role which Fabinho currently occupies, given his influence there during his teammate’s time out of the side.

Fabinho is a fantastic player who should return to his best eventually, but leaving him out in favour of Henderson could be the correct move by Jurgen Klopp, with Liverpool needing to be at their best in order to get past the well-drilled Atletico Madrid.
