Mohamed Salah was at his ruthless best on Saturday afternoon, scoring twice in Liverpool’s 4-0 win at home to Southampton.
It took the Egyptian’s tally for the season to 18 goals in all competitions, making him the Reds’ top scorer in 2019/20.
An incredible statistic has emerged since the victory, courtesy of the Liverpool Echo, showing that only Lionel Messi (51) has scored more home league goals since August 2017.
In terms of the Premier League, Salah is leading the way with 44 strikes, ahead of Manchester City star Sergio Aguero, who is on 38.

Salah is actually still underrated, in my opinion, considering the rate that he scores at. He is Liverpool’s most prolific goalscorer in history, pipping Gordon Hodgson (0.64) to first place with a ratio of a 0.65 goals per game for the Reds.
Salah is highly-rated, of course, but such numbers suggest he should be viewed among the truly elite footballers on the planet. To only be behind Messi sums up how remarkably consistent Liverpool’s No.11 is at Anfield, as well as being ahead of someone of Aguero’s brilliance.
I believe some of Salah’s all-round performances have been frustrating at times this season, with some fans labelling him as greedy, but he remains a goalscoring phenomenon.
His displays in the recent wins over West Ham and Southampton have seen him get back to his very best, with This Is Anfield handing him respective eight and nine-out-of-10 match ratings.
