According to the Telegraph, Liverpool are worried about the injury sustained by Christian Benteke, who will undergo a scan on his hamstring.
The Belgian striker was subbed off at half-time in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Norwich City at the weekend and there are concerns over the severity of the niggle that he has picked up.
The 24-year-old will definitely miss the tie against Carlisle in the League Cup for Liverpool on Wednesday, however, the real issue is whether he will be missing long-term for Liverpool.
Liverpool play Benteke’s former club Aston Villa on Saturday, and the Telegraph report that the £32.5m man is facing a battle to make the game.
The Reds’ first-team coach Gary McAllister, when asked about the injury, said: “Christian is going to have an MRI scan today. He has a problem with his hamstring.
He’s not going to be ready for tomorrow.
Danny Ings came on for Benteke at half-time on Sunday, and went on to score Liverpool’s only goal of the game just minutes into the second half.
The ex-Burnley hitman is in line to replace him and McAllister has no doubts over whether or not he will be able to make the step-up to the Liverpool starting line-up.
“Danny Ings came on and it was really refreshing to see his performance,” said McAllister.
“He has been working his socks off on the training ground and it is not by a fluke that he scored. It is because of his hard work.”
