Injury Update: Henderson and Sturridge

Jordan Henderson could feature for Liverpool on Monday against Arsenal, while Daniel Sturridge looks set to make his Reds return against Manchester United on September 12.

Henderson was forced to come off on Monday, just 52 minutes into the Reds’ 1-0 victory over Bournemouth, after suffering what appeared to be a foot injury.

The Mirror report that after he was thoroughly checked over by the medics on Wednesday, it was determined that the skipper’s injury was not a long-term setback and that he could possibly feature for the side when Liverpool travel to the Emirates to take on Arsenal.

While the injury is nothing too serious according to the medical staff, the 25-year-old looked to be in much discomfort before being subbed off against the Cherries.

Thus, Henderson will be allowed to make the decision for himself whether or not he can play come match day.

As for Sturridge, the striker has been undergoing rehabilitation in the United States since May, after picking up a hip injury in March, and looks to be set to appear for the Reds at Old Trafford next month according to he Guardian.

The England international, who suffered a hip injury on March 22 in the Reds’ 2-1 defeat to the Red Devils in which he found the back of the net, has been making significant progress since his May 5 operation under the watchful eyes of Boston Red Sox sports scientists – the other sports club that Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group oversees.

Glenn Driscoll, Liverpool’s head of performance, and Chris Morgan, Liverpool’s head of physiotherapy, travelled to Boston this past week and deemed the striker fit to return to training. He is expected to be back on Merseyside this weekend.

While a start for the left-footed frontman looks unlikely, Sturridge could well come on as a second half substitute with Brendan Rodgers likely uneasy about the idea of shoving the forward back into first team football after a five-and-a-half-month absence from the game, especially against Louis van Gaal’s surging Red Devils.

With the impending return of our skipper and world-class striker, who managed a mere five goals across 17 appearances during an injury-plagued 2014-15 season, Rodgers’ side looks set to be a menace for opposing teams throughout the remainder of the first half of the season and in the battle for a coveted top four spot, if good health prevails and no more injuries come the Reds’ way.
