Keane singles out Lovren as Liverpool’s main weakness

Liverpool were excellent in seeing off Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, recovering from an early deficit to win 2-1 at Anfield.

Numerous Reds players shone on the day, from the monstrous Fabinho to the unplayable Sadio Mane.

The one player who failed to convince consistently was Dejan Lovren, who came in for the injured Joel Matip.

While the Croatian produced some good moments, he also looked shaky up against Harry Kane and played a negative role in the striker’s first-minute opener.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Roy Keane singled out Lovren as a weakness in Liverpool’s side:

You talk about weaknesses in the Liverpool team, well I think Lovren will give you a chance.

He could have been a bit braver [with Tottenham’s goal], but we’ve seen that before from him.

Lovren receives unfair criticism at times, with some supporters incapable of ever giving him an ounce of praise.

The 30-year-old ultimately isn’t good enough to be starting regularly for Liverpool, however, with both Matip and Joe Gomez superior options as Virgil van Dijk’s partner.

His time at Anfield is now running down and he should be the Reds’ fourth-choice centre-back until his exit arrives, potentially next summer.
